It could have been the numerous beers, and countless trips to the food table, but right as halftime was starting last night, a friend and I were discussing how fast the first half went. Then, out goes the power. Could this be a move by Mr. Goodell to get more advertising revenue in? -

The Rams definitely need to keep adding playmakers. If they do, they will have kick returners in that pile. But can they ever lean not to take blocking-in-the-back penalties on kick returns? That is the bigger question. Special teams could have been a bigger plus last season with fewer injuries. -

-
Pietrangelo is the team's top priority right now. Getting him locked in to an extension will set the financial puzzle for everybody else. Stewart could command huge dollars if he continues his current pace. I'd expect the Blues to keep him since big guys with skill have great value and are not difficult to trade, if it comes to that. Shattenkirk is also a priority. So is Berglund, as the rare big center will skill. Russell? Shrug. D'Agostini figures to move on, given his limited role here. The money going to Langenbrunner will go elsewhere -- and could the McDonald dollars, given this team's need to keep the prime-age guys in place. -

Gordo, first of all love the lengthy chats (the other writers seem to last about 30 min). I got some beef about Backes "Deliberate Injury" penalty. This should be a wakeup call to the NHL to insert some sort of a replay system when making a call on such influential penalties. A 5 minute major is pretty much a death sentence and unnecessarily cost the Blues 1 if not 2 points in my opinion. -
I covered that topic elsewhere on the site. www.stltoday.com -
I asked Backes and Hitchcock if the NHL should do what they do in basketball and consult replays before making such a call. Backes didn't want to see the game delayed any more. Hitchcock said he wanted to see the league make absolutely sure on those calls, for the obvious reasons. -

His full winter of weight work should move him closer to his vintage form next season. You always have to temper expectations for pitchers at his age, but don't forget that we basically saw him in spring training form after he came back from surgical repairs. He will enter this season fully prepared. -
Is it possible for team mgmt to hold a meeting with the whole team and say something to the effect of - Listen guys we have a good group of guys here, we have the ability to be really good for a long time but its going to have to take the willingness of you guys to make the pieces of the financial puzzle fit. Or is that kind of thing gone in this day and age of sports? I'm thinking that could be possible with a young team like the Blues and possibly the Cards in the near future. -
With the RFAs, keeping the contracts under control will be somewhat easier in this new CBA. But it will be very, very difficult for the Blues to maintain a team with this much talent for very long. Pietrangelo is going to get monstrous dollars both Shattenbirk and Stewart could have big-time earning power as well. -

Jeff was't great to see the 49ers not get the call they always get, you should read 49er blogs, and they were saying, Marshall was crying about Spygate! Great night for all Rams fans, 49ers got jobbed in NO too! hope this really bad loss effects them into next season. -

after watching the game last night, it is apparent that great quarterbacks have great play makers, including a full complement of receivers around them. Can't think of any recent teams where the two did not go together. Sam might be a great quarterback with a couple of great receivers. Thoughts?? -
You saw the importance of big targets that can go get a ball. Flacco could just put the ball up in the air and let Boldin get it. And you saw the value of a speed TE to blow away safeties and linebackers. Vernon Davis made Kaepernick that much more dangerous. Playmakers not only make plays, they give the QB confidence. We've seen flashes of what Bradford can do when he is confident throwing to his targets. -

Hi Gordo, My question is basketball please, I wanted to know your take on the Lakers situation? will they make a trade and who would they trade D-HOWARD whose been a bust so far or pau gasol who in my mind i still should start and is still a top player. and right now, i would rather have pau play over D-HOWARD. your take? thank you -
Bad times for Lakers fans. Gasol still believes he is a front line player, but is he? The whole Howard thing hasn't worked out and it's easy to see him land elsewhere. That whole thing seems headed for a divorce. It is hard to imagine the Lakers salvaging this season. Time to start over again? -
