Let's check the timeline. It has been hilarious. First off, the Brady Quinn Era was about to begin. And why wouldn't it, since Quinn was the definition of a journeyman _ six stops on seven years.. Then it was Austin Davis should be starting ahead of Clemens. You know because Clemens had clearly beaten out Davis in training camp and Davis had been out of work for several weeks before the Rams re-signed him. And now Clemens is better that Bradford. I give Clemens all the credit in the world for what he's doing. But he's completed 19 passes combined in the past two games. Rams special teams and defense have improved noticeably since the first San Francisco game. A potent running game has arrived. There are lots of factors that have led to the team's improved plays since San Francisco. Clemens obviously is one of them. I remind you that Bradford was the NFL's second-ranked QB in the three games since the San Fran game _ coinciding with the re-dedication to the run _ prior to his injury.
Clemens overall is a better scrambler. I wouldn't say he's better at throwing the ball away.
Too early to tell on Stacy. Won't reallly know anything definite till the end of the week.
They can get by with Shelley Smith in place of Williams. And I think they can get by with Cunningham in place of Stacy. But without Johnson? That's tough, even though San Fran usually doesn't throw it much.
The 49ers will be playing on the same wet grass. Not having Stacy would hurt, but Cunningham's got a lot of skill.
Tough call. Given Saffold's injury history, though, I don't think this will be one where the rams overpay.
I can't see Finnegan coming back without a restructure. It's a tougher call with Dahl.
I don't think Dahl comes back this week, but we'll get more of an idea Wednesday when the team returns to practice. But I think what saying makes a lot of sence.
I haven't been able to look at the tape yet, but the reviews from the coaching staff were good.
Organization has a lot of faith in Bradford. I expect the Rams to take a QB in the draft, but not in Round 1.
He was their most dominating linemen against Indy, too. Again, I still doubt Saffold is back.
Have to take this call. Back in a couple.
OK, I'm back. Sorry about that.
Obviously, 49ers should be favored and expected to win. Their defense is a tough as ever, and now they have Aldon Smith back. Crabtree could return at wide receiver as well. But the key, of course, is doing a better job against the run _ particularly Gore _ than the Rams did in September in the dome. And the Rams need to keep forcing turnovers. They were plus-3 in that area against the Bears. I expect a close, hard-fought game. These aren't the same Rams the 49ers played in Week 4.
We'll know later in the week. I would doubt it.
League has not commented on the Brockers hit other than referee Jerome Boger's comments to me as the pool reporter. As the reader below mentioned, it will be interesting to see if Brockers get fined.
No doubt, They've got to get after Kaepernick like the did McCown. I know the Rams got only one sack against McCown (2 if you count the Brockers play), but they were in his face all day with QB hits and hurries. The Rams secondary can't be expected to hold out long, particularly if Johnson can't play.
If he is fined, I'm sure any fine would be appealed.
I'd have to think on it when it comes to defensive player. But if Quinn keeps up his strong play with more sacks and forced fumbles and the Rams can post a few more wins, I think he can be a legitimate candidate. Right now Ihe could be the only Ram in the Pro Bowl. But given that the Rams haven't had a defensive player make the Pro Bowl since 2003, I even have to see that to believe it.
Obviously they like him or else Saffold would be playing RT. But I still think they take a tackle early in the draft.
Richardson has been practicing, so he's healthy enough to play. If Zac is out, Richardson has to be active, although I couldn't tell you for sure that he'd be the 2 or the 3 behind Cunningham.
Actually, the third. He's had rib and ankle issues previously. But the league clearly errs on the side of caution when it comes to head injuries or head trauma. So we'll see. Stacy has been getting a big workload.
